About Eraring
Eraring is a suburb located in the City of Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia. The name "Eraring" is of Aboriginal origin, meaning "that which gleams or glitters".
The area was originally granted to Percy Simpson in 1838, but due to a surveyor's error, Simpson ended up with Eraring instead of his intended land. Early settlers established farming and timber-getting industries, but the area remained relatively undeveloped until the early 20th century.
The Eraring Power Station, which began construction in 1975 and was completed in 1984, is a significant landmark in the area.
